Herrera statement on President Trump banning transgender people from the military

City Attorney Dennis Herrera emphasizes that ‘the President’s discriminatory policies do not reflect the values of our country and weaken us all’

SAN FRANCISCO (July 27, 2017) — City Attorney Dennis Herrera released the following statement in response to President Trump’s announcement barring transgender individuals from serving in the military. Herrera’s statement:

“It is disappointing to see the President discriminate against Americans who are willing to risk their lives to serve in our military. For decades, San Francisco has recognized the importance of adopting laws that protect and affirm transgender individuals’ rights. These policies have led to San Francisco becoming a stronger and more inclusive community. Transgender military members should be celebrated for their service and sacrifices. The President’s discriminatory policies do not reflect the values of our country and weaken us all.”
