Vows to continue championing consumers, the environment and SF neighborhoods
City Attorney Dennis Herrera was sworn in today for his sixth term as San Francisco’s top legal counsel. Herrera was first elected San Francisco City Attorney in 2001.
He was sworn in this morning by the Hon. Christine Van Aken, a former Deputy City Attorney and Chief of Appellate Litigation in the office before she was appointed to the San Francisco Superior Court bench in 2018.
Here is the message that Herrera sent to staff upon the start of his new term:
Dear Colleagues,
I was humbled and honored to be sworn in this morning to a sixth term as the City Attorney of San Francisco by Judge Christine Van Aken, who administered the oath of office at the weekly Senior Staff Meeting. It is a privilege to lead this office for another four years and work alongside the most dedicated professionals in municipal law.
All of you – secretaries, investigators, paralegals, legal assistants, attorneys, adjustors, receptionists, clerks, accounting staff, HR personnel, information technology staff and more – amaze me so often with your high-quality work. It has gotten to the point where it’s hard to be surprised when we accomplish truly remarkable things together.
That’s a credit to you and a boon to the people of San Francisco.
Let’s keep it up. We are going to continue to protect consumers, remove neighborhood blight, defend the interests of San Francisco taxpayers, ensure fair treatment for workers, champion our environment and stand up to a federal administration that does not respect the rule of law.
